Kremlin confirmed plans: Will talks on ending the war in Ukraine continue?

The Kremlin on Friday confirmed plans for new trilateral talks to end the war in Ukraine, following separate talks with US envoys in Geneva this week. This was reported by the DPA agency, writes TASR.

  • The Kremlin confirmed plans for new tripartite negotiations to end the war.
  • The date and place of the meeting will be announced only after reaching an agreement between the parties.
  • Ukraine announces the holding of new negotiations at the beginning of March in Abu Dhabi.
  • Negotiators with American representatives resolve security parameters, economic issues and coordination of positions.
  • Russia demands the relinquishment of additional Ukrainian territories, which Zelenskyi fundamentally rejects.

Additional details will be announced when an agreement is reached on the date and place, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. “So far, there have been no significant changes in the attitudes of the Kyiv regime,” he was quoted by Russian press agencies. Ukraine previously announced that new talks would be held in early March in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Kiev’s chief negotiator Rustem Umerov held talks with US envoy Steve Witkoff in Geneva on Thursday. “We are working on the finalization of security parameters, economic solutions and coordination of positions, which will form the basis of further agreements,” said Umerov on the Telegram platform.

Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev also met Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Geneva. According to Peskov, they again focused on possible future economic relations between Russia and the United States.

Direct negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow, mediated by Washington, have recently stalled. Both sides of the war accuse each other of wanting to win on the battlefield instead of settling at the negotiating table. The main Russian demand is for Ukraine to give up even those parts of its territory that Moscow has not yet occupied, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy refuses.
