The Ifab (International Football Association Board), the institution that coordinates football rules, approved this Saturday, at its annual meeting, held in Wales, a package of measures aimed at increasing the pace of matches and reducing wax in football.
Among the changes, which will be implemented from this year’s World Cup onwards, are the time limitation for taking throw-ins and goal kicks and a time out of the game for athletes who receive assistance during the match.
See the main changes below.
Medical care
When a player receives on-field treatment for an injury or his injury interrupts the match, he will be out of the game for one minute after the restart.
Throw-in and goal kick
If the referee considers that the throw-in or goal kick is taking too long, he will begin a five-second count. If the athlete exceeds these five seconds, the throw-in will be given to the opposing team; In the case of a goal kick, the opponent will win a corner.
Substitutions
The player to be substituted must leave the pitch within ten seconds after the substitution sign is displayed or, when there is no sign, after the referee’s signal. If this time is exceeded, his substitute will only enter when there is a stoppage after one minute of play.
VAR protocol
VAR can be used in other situations in the match.
– to review the red card resulting from the incorrect application of the second yellow card
– to review red or yellow card shown to wrong player
– to review clearly incorrect corner marking
Ifab will carry out consultations to create measures to punish players who leave the field as a form of protest against the referee’s decision and when they cover their mouths when confronting opponents in matches.
