After absence from the Bolsonarist event, Michelle says she underwent ‘minor surgery’

Former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro (PL) stated this Monday that she underwent a “small surgical procedure” last week. The statement comes after a speech by federal deputy Bia Kicis (PL) about Michelle’s absence at the “Acorda Brasil” event, held on Sunday on Avenida Paulista, in the center of São Paulo.

“I underwent a small surgical procedure last Friday. Everything is fine and, except for some restrictions, I continue with my normal activities. Thank you for your concern, for your affection and for your prayers,” Michelle wrote on social media.

On Sunday, Kicis stated that Michelle was not present at the event due to surgery. Another reason cited by the deputy was the former first lady’s need to take care of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and their daughter, Laura Bolsonaro.

The act of opposition to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and in defense of Jair Bolsonaro’s freedom occupied two blocks of Avenida Paulista, close to Masp. The demonstration was attended by 20,400 people, according to estimates by the Political Debate Monitor, from the Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning (Cebrap) — coordinated by Pablo Ortellado and Márcio Moretto, from the University of São Paulo (USP) —, in partnership with the NGO More in Common.

Called by federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL-MG), this was the first Bolsonarist act in Paulista since senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) was defined as a pre-candidate for the presidency of the Republic, with his father’s approval.

Flávio was present, as well as pastor Silas Malafaia, the national president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, and governors Ronaldo Caiado, from Goiás, and Romeu Zema, from Minas Gerais. In addition to Michelle, governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) did not attend the event, as he traveled to Germany to fulfill agendas in the technology area.
