According to information transmitted by philenews, the President of the Republic received a relevant information early on Tuesday from the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The two leaders had two telephone conversations on Monday, during which the Cypriot President submitted a request to strengthen the island’s defense armor.
According to the same information, President Macron informed Mr. Christodoulidis that France is immediately sending anti-missile and anti-drone systems, as well as a frigate, while a second frigate is planned to be sent at a later stage.
A request for the dispatch of a frigate to Cyprus was made by the President of the Republic and to the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, in a telephone conversation they had on Monday, with Mr. Merz responding positively and the relevant decision of the German Government is expected immediately.

It is worth mentioning that the Minister of Defense Vassilis Palmas, the Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias and the Chief of Defense Forces of Greece, General Dimitrios Houpis.
The meeting takes place at a time of particular geopolitical fluidity, with threats against the Republic of Cyprus having escalated and Athens activating the unified Greek-Cyprus defense doctrine.
According to the Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letympiotis, Mr. Dendias will also be received by the President of the Republic, as part of the consultations on the assessment of the security situation.
