Cidadania elected, this Wednesday (4), federal deputy Alex Manente (Cidadania-SP) as the new president of the party.
He takes over at a time when the split within Cidadania made the fight end up in court.
One wing advocated that Comte Bittencourt, elected in 2023, continue to lead the party. But, after defeats in court, Roberto Freire took charge and, in a meeting in early February, deliberated on the congress.
Comte even tried to prevent the meeting from taking place this Wednesday, but the (Superior Electoral Court) denied the appeal and upheld decisions of the Federal District court in favor of Freire.
The wing that defends Alex Manente as the new president claims that he has the support of representatives from across the country, including presidents of directorates, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Amazonas. The Congress was attended by 600 people.
But Comte’s allies claim they have a majority in the party. Even with this Wednesday’s election, the dispute does not seem to end.
They collected signatures from 66 members of the executive to deliberate on the command of the party. And they called a new congress for Friday (6).
