The vice-president () announced this Thursday (5) that he will leave his position as minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services on April 4th – the deadline for the so-called disqualification of public office holders who intend to run for office.
“But it’s far away. It’s already [acontecendo] the ban?”, he joked, when asked during a press conference about the February trade balance, at the ministry. He left the event to go to Palácio do Planalto, where he participates in an agenda with the president.
Alckmin’s role in the 2026 elections has not yet been defined. Although a wing of the government sees a new candidacy for vice-president as natural, there are government supporters who are also talking about nominating a candidate from another party.
