Viktor Orbán makes any aid to Kyiv conditional on the restoration of oil transit and blocks the billion-dollar loan and the EU sanctions package. Hungary tightens the course towards Ukraine.
Until Ukraine fulfills its obligations in the transportation of oil, Budapest will for now refuse any financial support to Ukraine. This was announced on Friday in a regular interview for public radio Kossuth Rádió by the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán. At the same time, his government will stop the transportation of all things important for Ukraine passing through Hungary, informs the correspondent of TASR in Budapest.
- Hungary refuses to provide financial support to Ukraine until it fulfills its oil transportation obligations.
- Viktor Orbán announced the stoppage of the transit of things important for Ukraine through Hungary.
- Hungary has already stopped the supply of gasoline and diesel to Ukraine, electricity continues.
“We have stopped the supply of gasoline to Ukraine, we do not even supply diesel, but we still supply electricity and we will stop the transport of other things important for Ukraine that pass through Hungary,” Orbán clarified.
Blocked loan for Ukraine
At the same time, the Prime Minister expressed the hope that Ukraine will run out of money sooner than Hungary will run out of oil. Hungary is blocking the provision of a 90-billion dollar loan to Ukraine, which the leaders of the EU member states agreed on in December, as well as a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, in order to stop supplies.
Oil from Russia has not flowed through the Druzhba pipeline to Hungary and Slovakia since January 27. According to Kyiv, the reason is the Russian attack on the oil pipeline facility. The Prime Minister of Hungary and the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, suspect Ukraine of the fact that it still has not resumed supplies on purpose. Kyiv denies this and says it is working to repair damaged infrastructure.
