MP-SP defends Lula’s veto of PL Antifaction article – 03/07/2026 – Panel

Members of the group began a mobilization with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to veto an article recently approved by Congress, which eliminates the Jury Court in crimes committed by ultra-violent criminal organizations, paramilitary groups or private militias.

These types of crimes were created by the new law, approved with the aim of curbing organized crime.

This Friday (6), he recorded a video defending the veto.

The approved article, according to him, violates the principle of natural judge, which in homicides is the Jury Court. “Statistics show that sentencing councils have been very harsh in these cases, reaching a conviction rate of over 82% in São Paulo,” he declared.

Last Thursday (5), two entities in the category, Conamp (National Association of Members of the Public Ministry) and the CNPG (National Council of Attorneys General of the Public Ministry of the States and the Union), sent a letter to Lula also demanding the veto.

“The admission of this removal of homicides linked to organized crime from the Jury Court’s sphere of competence prevents society itself from expressing itself democratically and applying, in specific cases, its feeling and understanding of justice”, argue the entities.
