A particularly well-known 82-year-old obstetrician, who is accused of a case over the internet, has caused a shock. The case was revealed after international cooperation of the authorities and an investigation by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate.
How did they track him down?
The investigation began when the Greek authorities received information from the United States’ NCMEC (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children), which monitors and detects incidents of trafficking of material of sexual abuse of minors on the Internet. According to the data that reached Greece, an internet user had uploaded illegal material to an online platform.
Through analysis of electronic data and digital traces, authorities were able to identify the user and trace the 82-year-old. The police located his residence in Patras and on the morning of Friday, March 6, a raid was carried out at his house, in the presence of a court official.
What was found at home?
During the search of the 82-year-old’s home, a mobile phone device, an external hard drive and two internal computer hard drives were seized. The devices were examined on the spot by specialized police officers, who found evidence that, according to the police, links the accused to the case.
A large number of photos and videos depicting the sexual abuse of minors, who according to the authorities are under the age of 12, were found in digital evidence.
While according to the same information, photographs were found depicting his relative’s minor faces in naked or semi-naked positions.
The authorities proceeded to arrest the 82-year-old as part of the spontaneous procedure. A case was filed against him for online pornography of minors. He was brought before the competent prosecuting authority, which will decide on his further criminal treatment.
