Seven days of silence: Why didn’t China fly military flights around Taiwan?


Taiwan observers have rarely breathed a sigh of relief for such a reason: On Saturday, the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense reported that China had sent two fighter jets to Taiwan. The military flights from mainland China are actually symbols of aggression intended to build pressure with the message: We could use military force at any time to annex Taiwan. In Beijing’s interpretation, the self-governing, democratic island is ultimately part of the People’s Republic of China.
