“It is not understandable that the Government does not give up this tax and that it continues to take money from taxpayers”, claims the Chega leader.
On Friday it was announced that the diesel will increase by 23 cents per liter next Monday, when fuel prices are updated.
On the same day, the Government announced a 3.5 cent reduction on ISP – tax on petroleum products. Only in the case of diesel, because gasoline does not exceed the limit (increase of 10 cents per liter).
That is, the liter of diesel will increase by 19.5 cents at once, even with the ISP discount.
Andre Ventura believes that this measure is not enough. The president of Chega claims that the prime minister had assured that he would present measures to actually mitigate the increase in fuel prices, “in terms of real impact on the final price for consumers”.
Insisting on the word “return”, in relation to ISP, Ventura pointed out: “This (Luís Montenegro’s speech) was a fraud and it was a deception on the part of Government”.
Calculating the real impact of the tax discount, the deputy repeated that the 3.5 cents are a “fraud” in relation to what was said in the Legislative Assembly.
At a press conference, André Ventura recalled that more than 50% of the final price of fuel in Portugal are taxes.
“The Government, if it was not counting on these taxes, you can abdicate from them. This is not populism, nor a lack of realism: it is a value that the Government was not counting towards its own revenue”.
“Therefore, it is not understandable that the government does not give up this amount and that it continues to withdraw money from taxpayers, even at a time of inflation crisis and at a time of pressure on diesel and gasoline”, lamented André Ventura, this Saturday.
It is a “situation of makeup” of the Government, which is giving “a crumb” to consumers.
Chega has already called for an urgent debate in Parliament on the increase in fuel prices.
The party also wants the Government to apply Zero VAT on food products until the end of this year.
