Several regions in Kenya are facing devastating floods caused by consecutive days of intense rain. The capital Nairobi is one of the most affected regions.
In several areas of Kenya, roads were submerged, houses were destroyed and several cars were swept away by the force of the waters. The floods are a consequence of several days of intense rain that hit the country.
Rescue teams have tried as best they can to reach areas where there are still people in danger.
“We were trying to avoid traffic and that’s how we ended up here, on Grogan road. After sitting in traffic for a few hours, water suddenly appeared and unfortunately my bus was full. I had 33 passengers on board,” said a driver.
A capital, Nairobiis the most affected region. There is dozens of fatalities and the authorities admit that the number may increase in the coming days. Several people continue missing.
The floods have already left more than 50 thousand people without homes.
“I was very lucky to get my cell phone back. Someone gave it back to me this morning. I lost everything: my business, my money and also some money I collected for our aid group, because I’m the treasurer. I don’t know what I’m going to tell them,” said another local.
The coming days continue to be of great concern for the people of Kenya.
Meteorologists have already warned that intense rain is likely to continue in the region, which increased o risk of new floods and more evicted.
