OAB will ask Mendonça for access to evidence from the Master case

President Beto Simonetti said that the entity requested a meeting with the minister to submit the request for access to the material

The president of the (Brazilian Bar Association), said this Monday (March 9, 2026) that the entity will request access to all evidence from the investigation investigating Banco Master at the STF (Supreme Federal Court).

Earlier, the Federal Council and the college of presidents of the institution agreed to request the material from the minister, rapporteur of the case at the Court.

“We will ask Minister Mendonça for the evidence contained in these files. Because Brazilian society needs to have revealed what it has in this investigation. The legal profession calls for this as a representative of Brazilian society”the president of the OAB told journalists after meeting with the president of the STF, Edson Fachin, in Brasília.

According to Simonetti, the OAB has already requested a meeting with Mendonça to deliver the request. The date of the meeting has not yet been defined.

“We will request this access with absolute respect for the existing procedural secrecy and without interfering in the work of fellow lawyers who defend the process”, declared.

Simonetti avoided anticipating possible actions by the OAB based on the analysis of the material: “We need to know what’s there and reflect on what to do”.

The meeting with Fachin was held at the CNJ (National Council of Justice), at the request of the president of the OAB, to defend the shelving of the investigation into fake news.

VISIT FROM THE VORCARO DEFENSE

The president of the OAB defended that the visit of the Master’s founder’s lawyers to their client should take place in a private manner. According to Simonetti, this is a right guaranteed by the Law Statute, which has the force of Federal Law.

Vorcaro’s defense to the STF this Monday (9th March) that the visit with the bankers should not be recorded, which is not allowed in federal prisons. The former banker’s lawyers requested that the meeting be held “without any type of monitoring or recording, with the possibility of entering printed copies of the files and recording notes during the meetings”. The banker’s defense also asked that he be transferred to another prison unit if the request cannot be met.

According to the lawyers, the management of the prison unit informed that the defense team’s visit could not be made immediately and would depend on scheduling for “some date next week”. Also according to the defense, it was informed that the meetings would be monitored by audio and video and that the banker’s representatives would not be able to use pen and paper during the meetings.
