Quaest: distrust in the STF reaches 49% and exceeds trust in the Court

A Brazilians’ confidence in the Federal Supreme Court (STF) is lower than the level of distrust, according to research released this Thursday (12) by Quaest Pesquisa e Consultoria.

According to the survey, 49% of Brazilians say they do not trust the STF, while 43% say they trust the Court. Another 8% did not know or chose not to answer.

Compared to the previous round of the survey, carried out in August 2025, there was an increase in distrust. At that time, 47% said they did not trust the court, a figure that has now risen to 49%. Confidence fell from 50% to 43%. The percentage of those who were unable to answer also increased, from 3% to 8%.

The research also evaluated the population’s perception of the Court’s power. For 72% of those interviewed, the STF has too much powerwhile 18% disagree with this statement and 2% say they neither agree nor disagree. Another 8% did not know or did not respond.

Despite this, 51% of Brazilians say that the STF was important for maintaining democracy in the country. On the other hand, 38% disagree with this assessment, 2% neither agree nor disagree, and 9% did not know or did not respond, according to the survey.

Those who agree that it is It is important to vote for a Senate candidate committed to deliberating on impeachment of Supreme Court ministers are 66%. Another 22% disagree, 2% neither agree nor disagree, and 10% did not know or did not want to give their opinion.

59% agree with the statement that the STF is a power allied with the government of President Lula (PT). Those who disagree are 26%. Another 3% neither agree nor disagree and 12% did not want to, or did not know how to answer.

Methodology

The research was commissioned by Genial Investimentos and carried out by Quaest Pesquisa e Consultoria between the 6th and 9th of March. 2,004 people aged 16 or over were interviewed across the country. The margin of error is plus or minus two percentage points, with a 95% confidence level. The sample was weighted based on data from PNAD 2025/3, PNAD 2024/2 and the 2022 Census.
