Iaco River remains at an atypical level for the month of March in Sena Madureira

Rio Iaco segue com nível atípico para o mês de março em Sena Madureira

The level of the Iaco River continues to show behavior considered atypical for the month of March in the municipality of . According to information from the Civil Defense, the spring registered 8.60 meters in the measurement carried out this Thursday (12), an index below what is usually observed at this period of the year.

Traditionally, the months of the so-called “Amazonian winter” tend to see a rise in river levels due to increased rainfall in the region. However, the current scenario is very different from that recorded in previous years and also from the level expected for this time. According to Civil Defense, the alert level is 14 meters, while the overflow level is 15.20 meters. Although the current level is well below these limits, monitoring continues to be carried out on a permanent basis by the authorities.

In January this year, the river reached 15.72 meters, exceeding the overflow level and causing flooding in at least six neighborhoods, in addition to leaving several families homeless.

At the moment, however, the scenario is considered calm for both residents and the bodies responsible for monitoring the river level, which remain attentive to climate change and the volume of rainfall in the region.
