She was grateful for receiving a bouquet of white roses from a group of 300 women from all over Brazil
A month after having them, Sarah Araújo spoke about the feeling of loss in an interview with TV Anhanguera, a Globo affiliate in Goiás and Tocantins Miguel Araújo Machado, 12 years old, and Benício Araújo Machado, 8 years old, were killed on February 11 by their father, Thales Machado, 40 years old, government secretary of the city of Itumbiara, who also took his own life.
“To this day I can’t believe it. It’s very difficult to look at their photos, the videos, and them not being here. I can’t accept it, especially the way it was,” Sarah told TV.
In the interview, she was grateful for receiving a bouquet of white roses from a group of 300 women from all over Brazil. The flowers were delivered to the house of Mayor Dione Araújo, Sarah’s father, by the coordinator of the Casa da Mulher de Itumbiara.
“I want to thank all of them. I really feel their affection for me, their solidarity, I feel their prayers, I feel that their support is sustaining me,” he said.
Remember the case
Thales Machado shot his two children and then took his own life. Miguel was rescued, but died in the early hours of the morning. Benício was admitted to the ICU of the Itumbiara State Hospital in a very serious condition and died two days later. Thales was found already dead.
According to the State Civil Police, the case is treated as two completed homicides, followed by self-extermination. The corporation states that there is no evidence of third party participation in the crime.
On social media, hours before the episode, Machado had made a publication declaring his love for his children. “May God always bless my children. Daddy loves them so much”, he wrote in the caption of a video.
