Kukulkán is the Mayan deity of the feathered serpent — an ancient symbol of protection, balance and renewal
Mexico announced an unprecedented security operation to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup games: the Plano Kukulkan.
The name is not by chance. Kukulkán is the Mayan deity of the feathered serpent — an ancient symbol of protection, balance and renewal. A strong and symbolic choice for an event that will require maximum care.
In recent days, fortunately, there have been no records of large-scale clashes between security forces and drug trafficking groups. But analysts remain attentive: the internal dispute over succession in the CJNG (Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación) can generate isolated spikes in violence. The government knows that it cannot let its guard down.
The headquarters in the country will be Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City. To shield these locations (and the entire surrounding area), the plan is impressive:
- Nearly 100 thousand agents security (National Guard, Armed Forces, local police and even private security).
- Dogs specialized in detecting explosives and drugs.
- More than 2 thousand vehicles (military and civilian).
- 24 aircraft dedicated to surveillance.
- 33 droneoperational s + advanced anti-drone systems.
- Reinforced perimeters at airports, stadiums, official hotels and high-traffic tourist areas.
All of this coordinated in real time with the United States, Canada and the country itself. FIFAsharing intelligence and following joint protocols.
There are also mentions of the use of AI, facial recognition and monitoring.
In modern times, a successful security operation is not only measured by brute force. It needs to balance three fundamental pillars:
- Technical efficiency (cutting-edge technology + impeccable coordination)
- Legality (respect for human rights and laws)
- Preservation of life (from fans, delegations, residents and agents)
I hope the Kukulkán Plan achieves exactly that: showing the world a safe, organized and welcoming Mexico, without sacrificing essential values.
The World Cup is coming (June 2026). Here’s to great games, lots of excitement and, above all, peace and tranquility for those who enjoy it.
