According to him, the objective is to expand the techniques used in working with animals, bringing methods applied by police forces in different parts of the world.

“Today we already work with dogs focused on scent, mainly in the detection of drugs and firearms. But we decided to bring a new type of training to the dog sector, which is the search, guard and protection dog, based on the Mondioring technique”, he explained.

Mondioring is an international training method that prepares dogs for situations closer to the reality faced by security teams. The technique allows the animal to act both in patrolling and in protecting the police team.

“The idea is to have a dog that works together with the team, helping on patrol and also ensuring the safety of the garrison”, highlighted the captain.

Criminal police officer Arisson Pinheiro de Lima, who has worked with dogs for around five years, also participated in the seminar focused on the training and responsible handling of dogs. Graduated in kinesthetics and with specialization courses in the area, he highlighted the importance of training to strengthen the work carried out in the region.

According to him, the initiative to bring an instructor to provide the training arose due to the difficulties and high costs of seeking training outside the state.

“The objective is to improve work with animals and also show society that training is not related to mistreatment. On the contrary, it improves coexistence between the dog and the owner”, he explained.

During the event, the Sociable Dog Test (TCS) was also presented, an assessment used in other regions of the country to check the behavior and level of socialization of animals. The expectation is that, in a next meeting, the test can also be applied in Cruzeiro do Sul.

The activities also included the participation of trainer Carlos dos Anjos, born in Campinas. The specialist works with animal training and behaviorism in various regions of the country and is a breeder of Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherd dogs, known worldwide for their performance in security operations.

During training, Carlos explained that the methods used in working with dogs are based on rewards, not aggression.

“There is a myth that a dog that finds narcotics needs to be addicted or aggressive, but this is not true. The work is done for reward. The animal identifies the odor and receives something it likes, such as food or a ball”, he stated.

He also highlighted that the techniques taught can be applied not only by security forces, but also by owners who want to improve their animals’ behavior.

“Leadership is not aggression. Dogs need to understand rules, such as eating times, where to do their business and what their space is. A guard dog, for example, does not need to be aggressive, it needs to be trained”, he concluded.
