US President Donald Trump told reporters on Monday that he asked to postpone his trip to China, which was scheduled to take place between March 31 and April 2, for about a month, due to the war with Iran.
“We request that the postponement be made for about a month,” he said.
He claims it is important to remain in Washington to oversee the war with Iran.
“Because of the war, I want to be here. I feel like I need to be here,” Trump said Monday during a White House event when asked about the possibility of rescheduling the high-level summit. The meeting between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies is scheduled to begin later this month.
“So we requested that we postpone it for a month, and I look forward to being with him,” Trump added. “We’re at war. I think it’s important that I’m here. So we might postpone it a little bit, but not too much.”
