Fabiano Zettel’s defense presented a new statement to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) reinforcing the request to replace preventive detention with house arrest. The request will be assessed by the case’s rapporteur, Minister André Mendonça.

In the petition, the lawyers argue that there is no longer a need to maintain the more serious precautionary measure and state that the preventive detention must be reviewed in light of the current circumstances of the case.

According to the defense, Zettel does not pose a risk to public order or investigations, which would eliminate the legal requirements for maintaining the prison. Lawyers also argue that alternative precautionary measures would be sufficient to ensure the progress of the process.

Brother-in-law of banker Daniel Vorcaro, Zettel is named by the Federal Police as one of the central characters in the case involving suspected irregularities related to the Master bank. He was arrested by order of the Supreme Court in the context of the operation investigating an alleged scheme of illicit practices, including possible fraud and atypical financial transactions.

According to the investigations, Zettel would have acted in strategic roles within the investigated structure, which led to the decree of preventive detention under the argument of risk of interference in the investigation and continuity of conduct.
