Fortaleza guaranteed its qualification for the next phase of the Copa do Brasil by beating Nova Iguaçu 1-0, on Tuesday night (17), at the Estádio Luso Brasileiro, in Rio de Janeiro.
In a single game valid for the fourth phase of the national competition, Leão do Pici won the place with a goal from Vitinho, scored in first-half stoppage time, after an assist from Tomás Pochettino.
The game
The duel marked the first historic meeting between the two teams, who played a balanced match throughout the 90 minutes.
Nova Iguaçu demonstrated good tactical organization, recording 92% passing accuracy and maintaining 57% ball possession in the second half. But Fortaleza, the favorite, was more effective in finishing, hitting three shots on target against just one of the hosts.
The last minutes were marked by tension, with the Ceará team dominating, which controlled the actions, especially after the expulsion of Wender dos Santos, from Nova Iguaçu, who received a straight red card when he was already on the bench.
With the victory, Fortaleza not only advances in the competition, but also guarantees a prize of R$2 million offered by the CBF for those classified in this phase.
