Lulinha’s defense says the company aims for future projects – 03/17/2026 – Politics

The defense of Fábio Luís da Silva, known as Lulinha, son of President Lula (PT), states that the company he opened in Madrid, Spain, in January 2026 is legitimate, but is not in operation. The opening occurred when investigations into fraud were already underway.

With the argument of preserving the businessman’s privacy, his defense did not give details about the economic activities carried out by Lulinha in Europe. Asked about how he supports himself abroad, the defense stated that he works and receives income as an individual, but without explaining with whom or under what type of contract. Its companies in Brazil are inactive and the new company does not yet operate.

Lawyers Marco Aurélio de Carvalho and Guilherme Suguimori, who defend Lulinha, also stated that the company’s registration occurred in full accordance with Spanish legislation, but that it is part of a future project that Lula’s son will undertake in the country.

Carvalho said that Lulinha’s move abroad will not have consequences for the investigation into INSS fraud and that, if STF minister André Mendonça, rapporteur of the case, understands that the businessman needs to provide clarifications, he will come to Brazil.

“There is no irregularity, Fábio left Brazil with the aim of living in Madrid, where he is raising his children, enrolled them in school, and lives an absolutely peaceful life”, he said.

Carvalho said that Lulinha “does not intend to provide clarifications about the provision of services he has with the law firm”. “We are not surprised that someone went there to ask [sobre Lulinha]. Who said he works there? It’s one thing to work with this office, it’s another to work in that unit”, he added.

The Monereo Meyer Abogados office specializes in advising foreign companies in Spain. The registered address of Synapta SL, the name of the firm opened by Lulinha in January 2026, is the same as the office, which has a power of attorney to represent the company.

The lawyer stated that the search for Lulinha’s privacy is the result of wounds that persist, resulting from events such as the loss of her mother, Letícia Maria, and a nephew during Operation Lava Jato, which resulted in the arrest of President Lula — a decision later annulled by the STF.

A few weeks before opening the company in Madrid, Lulinha transferred the management of his companies in Brazil to his wife, Renata de Abreu Moreira. Carvalho stated that the transfer was a “merely operational issue, precisely because, now, he is developing another activity”, and that the change was made following legal procedures.

Companies in Brazil are not in operation, according to Carvalho, but remain open because they have receivables that are under judicial discussion.
