The “cute” people at PS have to change. And the party needs new faces, warns Paulo Pedroso

Paulo Pedroso

Carneiro’s “very difficult” exercise, the new protagonists and the current Government, which is weak and ineffective.

José Luís Ram was re-elected general secretary of the Socialist Party (PS), without internal opposition, but with an exercise “very difficult” ahead.

The warning comes from Paulo Pedroso, who thinks that the party should renew now, that it should have “new protagonists”. Because the PS cannot be “the party of exesof former ministers for example”.

In , the former Minister of Labor warns that not having internal contestation in the PS “is not healthy” – but understands that, even if there is contestation, these people feel that now “is not the time to appear”.

“All people who may be interested in being general secretary of the PS are aware that there will not be elections soon and nothing has happened that justifies overthrowing José Luís Carneiro”, analysis.

Paulo Pedroso said that the PS It’s been a kind of “left arm (of the Government) available, facing a wall of silence.” And, regarding an alleged “very cute” leader, the socialist went further: “Everyone is being cuter than they actually are, because everyone was aware that the system was blocked” – Marcelo at the end of his term and doubts within the PSD about the government stability.

Now, the situation must change: “The game starts now. There was an interval here where everyone was conditioned. The PS must definitely stop acting as a lawyer for the previous Government (socialist). This is a complex that the PS still has.”

Government, labor package and Passos

Paulo Pedroso makes a clearly negative assessment of the Government led by Luís Montenegro: “This Government has essentially been ineffective, even on your own schedule. It has been a Government that is navigating a situation. He was born weak”.

And you go further, when comparing it with recent times from the PS itself: “This is a Government that It seems like the end of António Costa’s governments”.

The former Minister of Labor does not believe that the current Minister of Labor, Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho, will reach an agreement on the new labor law

“Social consultation is in post mortem; there are disagreements between the Government and CIP and UGT on nuclear matters. I do not believe in an agreement with this minister because this minister wants to create a counter-agenda for decent work. It is putting at risk what was decided in Parliament in recent years, and this is directly opposed by the UGT”, he analyzed.

And, given the absence of concessions (minister and UGT), Paulo Pedroso argues that Luís Montenegro replaces the minister in negotiations, to bring another “vision”.

Regarding Pedro Passos Coelho, “appears more and more as candidate for successor of Montenegro”. Passos will “appear before Montenegro falls. I don’t think he will show up to face Montenegro.”

“It’s friendly fire that aims to force Montenegro to create a right-wing bloc,” said Paulo Pedroso.
