Duarte Costa, climate change expert and SIC commentator, warns that this Thursday wind gusts in the Azores could reach 150 km/h, being comparable to the strength of a hurricane, due to the Therese depression. On SIC Notícias, he criticizes the lack of warnings to the population.
Depression Therese leaves the island of São Miguel this Thursday in a “dangerous” situation. The east zone will have winds of 131km/h. According to the with this data, a red alert should be issued.

“What concerns me is that we had Kristin depression less than two months ago and I haven’t seen anyone being prepared for this type of scenario,” he says, adding that people “have the right to be informed about the risks.”

Still on SIC Notícias, it warns that the weekend will be “quite worrying and dangerous” on the island of Madeira, with 50 liters of water per square meter in a single day.
“It could create a heightened risk of having a very considerable accumulation of rain (…). It could last until Wednesday next week”, he says.
