The federal government intensified its discourse to contain the threat of truck driver strikes and began to attribute political motivations to the mobilization. The Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleisi Hoffmann (PT), stated that there is an attempt to instrumentalize the category amid the rise in fuel prices.
In a video released this Wednesday (18), Gleisi said that the Executive has already adopted measures to reduce the impact of diesel and promised to tighten supervision over gas stations and distributors. According to her, companies that pass on increases considered abusive to the consumer will be punished.
“The warning also applies to those who are trying to manipulate truck drivers with political and electoral objectives”, declared the minister, associating the current mobilization with movements that took place in 2022.
While reinforcing the political discourse, Planalto negotiates practical measures to meet part of the category’s demands. The focus is on complying with the minimum road freight minimum, the central point of truck drivers’ complaints.
The Minister of Transport, Renan Filho, stated that the government is preparing new regulations to punish companies that repeatedly fail to comply with the table, expanding inspection and accountability throughout the logistics chain.
Despite the dissatisfaction, sector leaders decided to postpone a definition of the strike and wait for the publication of the normative instrument promised by the government. The expectation is that the text will detail the changes in inspection and compliance with the freight table.

A new meeting is scheduled for Thursday (19), when representatives of the category must assess whether the measures meet the demands.
