According to Fabiana, he had all the privileges of a white personand could not feel the pain of a black person, even if “dressing as black”, and compared to Erika Hilton, who would never know what a woman suffersin her opinion. “There’s no point putting on makeup like a woman, you won’t know what a woman goes through,” he said.
“If I’m white, and even though I paint myself as black, I can’t take care of people who suffer racism because I don’t know in essence what they went through, that’s exactly what a trans person can’t do to me”, she argued.
“The woman of the year cannot be transsexual,” he said. He also stated that he did not want a woman to take his place. “How are we going to take care of endometriosis, childbirth, breastfeeding, menopause, if the person has no place to speak?”, he asked.
She even argued with congresswoman Mônica Seixas (PSOL), who accused her of racism and the practice of “blackface”, in addition to asking for the session to be suspended, because Fabiana was committing a crime. She published on social media that she went to the Alesp police station to demand the deputy’s arrest in the act.
Despite the name chosen to hold the position, Fabiana is not related to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
What is “blackface”
A practice can be interpreted as “blackface”a method that was born in the United States in the 19th century, for white people to represent black people, mainly in theatrical shows, painting their bodies to represent black people in a humorous wayexaggerated and reinforcing stereotypes, considered extremely racist.
At the time, black people were prevented from going on stage. The practice helped justify slavery and, later, racial segregation and the denial of civil rights, reducing black people to laughable caricatures.
The act is considered aggression because it mocks physical characteristics and perpetuates a history of oppression and violence. It is not read as a simple makeup, but as a symbol of structural racism that tried to erase the humanity of black people.
