Marco Rubio is looking, on behalf of Trump, for a Cuban Delcy Rodriguez. There is a rumor that he has already found, in the figure of Raulito Castro, El Cangrejo. Raúl Castro’s grandson holds no official position, but operates behind the scenes as his grandfather’s shadow. Miguel Díaz-Canel, figurative president, placed him in a visible position during the speech in which he announced negotiations with the White House. The hereditary transfer of power typical of monarchies is not uncommon in left-wing dictatorships.
The chaos and violence unleashed by Trump removes masks. Popular power? Anti-imperialism? Socialism? Forget it: the Cuban regime, like the Venezuelan regime, seeks exclusively its own survival. Or, in other words, the continuation of the perennial plunder of the dwindling resources of a ruined economy. Yesterday with the USSR; today with the USA.
In , Trump replaced the idea of regime change with the idea of subordinating the regime to its interests. The negotiation triggered by Maduro’s extraction involved Rubio and Diosdado Cabello, the gray eminence of the kleptocratic dictatorship that shapes every act of Delcy and his brother Jorge Rodríguez, president of the Chavista National Assembly. Obediently, Trump’s new partners passed laws designed to hand over the oil fields and mining sector to American companies.

The second, a symbolic gesture of capitulation, would conclude the neocolonial pact.
Cuba is not Venezuela. The second is home to immense reserves of oil and valuable minerals. The first lacks riches, but occupies a unique ideological place: when Raulito kneels before Rubio, the mystique of the revolution that bewitched the Latin American left will disappear once and for all.
A second difference clarifies the model deviation. Unlike Venezuelan immigrants, refugees without dollars, a voice, or a vote in the US, Cuban-Americans form a pillar of the Republican electorate. Trump cannot ignore them as he outlines the contours of Cuba’s future. Hence, according to Rubio’s plan, at the end of the rainbow, power would fall into their hands.
The objective of the White House in Venezuela is to preserve the authoritarian regime, avoiding free elections. His objective in Cuba is to maintain the dictatorship for as long as necessary to transfer properties and businesses to Cuban-Americans. The aim, through the dictatorial transition, is to prevent the political organization of Cuban civil society, whose interests do not converge with those of exiles in Florida. The new Cuban ruling elite, exported by the USA, will land on ships.
“You have to harden yourself, without losing your tenderness.” Raulito, the dictator of the transition, learned Guevara’s lesson. He will march under Trump’s banner chanting the International.
