Ministry of Culture deeply regrets the death of actor and playwright Juca de Oliveira, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday (21), in São Paulo, at the age of 91.

Juca, as he was widely known by the public and in the artistic world, was born on March 16, 1935, in São Roque, in the interior of São Paulo, and built a career spanning more than six decades dedicated to Brazilian performing arts. He began his career in theater in the 1950s and became one of the most relevant names in national dramaturgy, with notable performances in important companies, such as the Teatro Brasileiro de Comédia and Teatro de Arena, fundamental spaces for the aesthetic and political renewal of theater in the country.

Throughout his career, he participated in more than 60 plays, in addition to acting in more than 30 soap operas and miniseries and in several films. He also stood out as an author, contributing to the Brazilian theater scene with texts and interpretations that marked generations. Among his most emblematic roles is that of the geneticist Doctor Albieri, in the soap opera “O Clone”, which highlighted his versatility and power as an interpreter.

With a career that began in theater, the actor established himself as one of the best known in national dramaturgy. Over the decades, he participated in more than 30 soap operas e dozens of piecesin addition to also acting as playwright e director.
