The 1st Budapest Patriotic Assembly began on Monday with the participation of several European right-wing leaders. The participants of the event could become decisive leaders in Europe within a few years. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced this in his speech, according to which their goal is the “occupation” of Brussels. Referring to the index.hu server, the TASR reporter informs about it.
- The first patriotic gathering of European right-wing leaders began in Budapest.
- Orbán described the goal of the gathered right-wing leaders as the political occupation of Brussels.
- Orbán criticized the alleged wiretapping of Minister Szijjártó with the support of foreign services.
For example, the leader of the French National Assembly (RN) Marine Le Pen, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini (League) and the chairman of the Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV) Geert Wilders arrived in the Hungarian capital.
Orbán on wiretapping
Before the event, in response to questions from journalists, Orbán said that the case of the alleged wiretapping of the head of Hungarian diplomacy, Péter Szijjártó, was a “serious” case.
“The fact that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of a sovereign country is wiretapped in cooperation with the authorities and secret services of another country, using Hungarian journalists, or at least one for sure, is very serious. The most serious thing is that it seems clear that all this was done with the knowledge of the (extra-parliamentary opposition) Tisza party and it clearly seems that it was done in its interests. However, this already exceeds all boundaries,” said the Hungarian Prime Minister.
The future of Europe
To the gathering of patriots, Orbán said that if people are curious about the future, they should follow this event carefully, because its participants will be the leaders of Europe in two to three years. According to the words of the prime minister, these are people who have joined together to “take over” Brussels.
According to the MTI agency, the participants of the meeting adopted the Budapest Manifesto of Patriots, in which they emphasized that Europe has reached a crossroads. According to them, it is about preserving the freedom, sovereignty and culture of nations. The manifesto states that today only patriots represent a growing camp of Europeans who want to maintain control over their own future.
Manifesto against the superstate
The document also emphasizes that patriots reject any efforts aimed at creating a European superstate, using the principles of the rule of law as a distorted political weapon against democratically elected governments, stand firmly for the preservation of the energy sovereignty of nations, and oppose mass immigration that undermines the security, cohesion and identity of European societies.
The alliance of far-right parties in the European Parliament (EP) called Patriots for Europe (PfE) was created after the European Parliament elections in 2024. The three founding parties were Fidesz (Hungary), ANO 2011 (Czech Republic) and FPÖ (Austria). They were later joined by Marine Le Pen’s National Association (France), Lega (Italy), Vox (Spain), Geert Wilders’ PVV (Netherlands), Chega (Portugal), Danish People’s Party (Denmark) and Vlaams Belang (Belgium). It is currently the third strongest group in the European Parliament.
