Donald Trump, President of the USA
US President extended the deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Attacks on power plants suspended.
The American President prolonged the deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuzstating that Washington will suspend attacks on power plants for five days.
The announcement was made a few hours before the end of the ultimatum deadline, presented on Sunday, ending at 11:44 pm.
Donald Trump said that the United States and Iran had “very good and productive conversations”, which could lead to “a complete and total resolution” of the war, adding that negotiations would continue “throughout the week”.
The North American president advanced, in this sense, that the Negotiations with Iran that he said are ongoing are taking place with a “respected Iranian politician”, whose identity he did not reveal.
According to Trump, representatives from the United States are in talks – “which They can even end the war” – with an Iranian politician who is not the current supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the previous ‘ayatollah’ Ali Khamenei, who was killed on the first day of the Israeli-American offensive, which began on February 28.
“[Estamos em contacto] with a high level person. Don’t forget: we annihilated the first, second and, to a large extent, the third level of leadership. But we are dealing with a man who I believe is the most respected and the leader” in the country, the American president explained to the media.
Assuring that it is not Khamenei, Donald Trump admitted that he does not know whether Iran’s new supreme leader is alive.
“We have no news about the son. Every now and then a statement appears, but we don’t know if he is alive,” he said.
O Iran denied that negotiations are ongoing between Washington and the Islamic Republic, as claimed by the US President
“There is no dialogue between Tehran and Washington”reported, among other media, the Iranian news agencies Mehr and Tasmin, linked to the regime, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Iranian press, Donald Trump’s statement was only aimed at “reduce energy prices”.
And if that was the case, it worked: on Monday morning, the price of oil Brent – reference in Europe – fell by more than 9%.
