At first glance it’s just a matter of little things. Fuel prices in Austria are set to become ten cents cheaper from April as a result of a planned intervention by the governing parties. Diesel is now around 70 cents more expensive and petrol is already 45 cents more expensive than before the start of the war. So it’s all silly? Not really. In fact, with the planned measure, the government is attempting for the first time to intervene in the pricing of the petroleum industry in the form of a margin limitation. That should bring you five cents. At the same time, the level of mineral oil tax will be changed for the first time in 15 years, in this case temporarily reduced by five cents. All of this is still highly controversial because many experts don’t want any intervention at all, as it is our dependence on oil that has brought us into this whole mess in the first place.
