Flávio accused former American president Joe Biden, of the Democratic Party, of interfering in the Brazilian elections in 2022
Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) asked, during a speech in the United States, that Americans “monitor freedom of expression” in Brazil and put diplomatic pressure on the country to guarantee “fair elections” in October, in which he will run for President of the Republic.
Flávio spoke this Saturday (28) to an audience of conservatives at CPAC, the best-known American conservative event. The event was held in Texas.
Flavio accused former American President Joe Biden, of the Democratic Party, interference in Brazilian elections in 2022won by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), through a “flood of money” from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Bolsonarists have been claiming in recent years that the agency had interfered in the results of the polls and financed Lula’s campaign, but there is no public document that proves this. Projects funded by the US agency in Brazil are mainly in the area of health and education, as Estadão Verifica has already verified.
Lula’s victory in the election, declared Flávio, gave Brazil “another devastating economic crisis, a public security crisis with the enormous expansion of narco-terrorist cartels, and multiple corruption scandals involving even members of Lula’s own family.”
The senator stated that he did not want interference in the Brazilian elections “as the Biden government did to bring Lula to power”, but asked that the United States and other countries “observe Brazil’s election with great attention”.
“Monitor our people’s freedom of expression. apply diplomatic pressure so that our institutions function properly”, he declared.
The comment endorses the version spread by many Bolsonarists that the 2022 elections were rigged. To date, no proof of this has emerged. not even in the report prepared by the Armed Forces, aligned with the Bolsonaro government, to inspect electronic voting machines.
“Instead of the Biden administration interfering in our elections to install a socialist who hates America, applying diplomatic pressure for free and fair elections based on American values – that’s a good foreign policy change for the region, isn’t it?”, the senator said.
Comparison between Bolsonaro and Trump
Flávio stated that his father suffers judicial persecution, just as Trump would have experienced in the United States, and that the same ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) who condemned him also worked to bring Lula back to powersuggesting a conspiracy against the right.
Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced by the STF to 27 years and three months in prison for attempted coup d’état and four other crimes, along with members of his government’s leadership (2019-2022), including generals. Today he is serving his sentence under temporary house arrest, due to health problems.
By highlighting the influence and size of Brazil in Latin America, considering territory, GDP and population, the speech tried to reinforce the importance for the Trump administration of having another government aligned with conservative values in the region.
“This is the crossroads that America faces: either you have the most powerful ally in the hemisphere, or an antagonist who aligns himself with American adversaries and makes any American policy for the region impossible,” he said.
He cited the term “drug cartels” five times to ask for American collaboration in combating factions such as the São Paulo PCC and the Rio de Janeiro CV. And he painted Lula as an ally of these criminal groups
Flávio promised return to the CPAC stage next year as president of Brazil, and that he will be an improved version of his father, just as the second Trump administration would be better than the first, in his words. He was accompanied by his brother Eduardo Bolsonaro, introduced at the event as an “exiled deputy”, and other allies.
