- Macey-Mai Clarke was born with a huge birthmark that covers most of her body.
- A biopsy revealed that it was malignant and could turn into an aggressive melanoma.
- Katelyn’s mother checks her daughter’s skin daily to see if the mark is changing.
Twenty-three-year-old Katelyn from the English city of Plymouth had a completely normal pregnancy and none of the examinations showed any abnormalities. But everything changed when little Macey-Mai was born on May 7, 2025. The parents were shocked when the doctors showed them a large melanocytic nevus that covered her entire back, sides and upper parts of her legs and arms. In addition, the little girl had more than 100 smaller growths on her face and scalp.
Macey-Mai also had seven painful lesions on her biggest mole that bled frequently. Her doctors removed them in August 2025 at a London hospital and sent them for genetic testing and a biopsy to see if they were malignant. After months of waiting for the results, the family received the heartbreaking news that one of the lesions was malignant and could turn into aggressive melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.
The mother-of-three revealed that in the coming months she will have to constantly monitor her daughter’s birthmark to see if anything changes.. “I take pictures every day and check every single centimeter of her body. Any changes, even the smallest ones, can mean the worst,” she admitted.
Since Katelyn has two more children, she admits that due to the health problems of her youngest daughter, she does not have enough space for the rest of the family. She explained that she and Macey-Mai have had to undergo dozens of tests in London over the past 10 months, which has put a huge financial burden on her and her husband. In addition, she has to buy special pajamas for her daughter so that she feels comfortable while lying down. “Her skin is constantly irritated. As soon as she lies down or leans back in a chair, she immediately starts rubbing her back,” she noted.
The family therefore set up a collection on the GoFundMe page, to raise funds to cover regular trips to the hospital to ensure Macey-Mai gets the best possible care. “Since the doctors informed us of her diagnosis, we decided to use part of the money to create wonderful memories with our daughter,” concluded the distressed mother.
