Meeting between four countries in the region is “very productive”, says Pakistan

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Darclassified the meeting of authorities from four countries in the region as “very productive”, in a statement released after the conclusion of negotiations this Sunday (29).

The foreign ministers of Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan met in Islamabad, Pakistan, where they discussed regional issues and “possible ways to quickly and permanently end the war in the region,” Dar wrote.

Dar also stated that Pakistan is prepared to host and facilitate conversations between the US and Iran “in the coming days”, saying both countries gave their “full support” to possible negotiations.

Here are other key points from the meeting, according to Ishaq Dar:

  • According to the statement, the group agreed that war “does no favors to anyone and will only lead to death and destruction.” The unity of Muslim identity during war is of “extreme importance”, he added.
  • They expressed concern about the war’s “devastating impact on lives and livelihoods” across the Middle East.
  • Foreign ministers agreed that dialogue and diplomacy were the “only viable path” to preventing conflict and promoting regional peace.
  • They discussed ways to strengthen unity among the four countries to reduce tension and “create conditions for structured negotiations between relevant parties.”
