The Organized Crime CPI, installed in the Senate, votes this Tuesday (31) on the summons of former governors Ibaneis Rocha (MDB), from the Federal District, and Cláudio Castro (PL), from Rio de Janeiro. . The technical understanding is that governors in office cannot be summoned by CPIs.
With their resignation, they became the target of the collegiate. The two requests were filed by the CPI rapporteur, senator Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE).
For Vieira, the Castro’s testimony will provide “an invaluable macro strategic overview, allowing us to investigate the flaws and the institutional bottlenecks that make it difficult to combat money laundering and the financial suffocation of organized crime.” Vieira is critical of the management of public security in Rio. In an interview with Estadão, he stated that the State is a “very clear demonstration of what does not work.”
The objective of Ibaneis Rocha’s summons request is to investigate, “from an institutional and administrative perspective”, the circumstances in which commercial relations developed between the law firm founded by Ibaneis and the entities investigated by the Federal Police for alleged crimes of fraud and money laundering for organized crime.
