Moraes schedules interrogation of Eduardo Bolsonaro for April 14

Son of former president Jair Bolsonaro is accused of coercion in the course of the attempted coup d’état

The minister, from , scheduled the interrogation of the former federal deputy (PL-SP) for April 14, in which case it is during the process regarding the attempted coup d’état.

The former federal deputy, who has been living in the United States since February 2025, will be heard via videoconference, starting at 2 pm.

In September 2025, Eduardo Bolsonaro was accused of trying to interfere in the trial of his father, the former president (PL).

According to the PGR, the former deputy resorted to threats of financial and restrictive sanctions from USA, “widely publicized on social networks and media outlets”to pressure Brazilian authorities to file cases or grant amnesty that would favor Bolsonaro.

The complaint against Eduardo was filed by the 1st Panel of the STF in November 2025.

Eduardo articulated actions against Brazil in the USA, such as the imposition of tariffs, suspension of visas and the application of . “The specific subjective element is evidenced, in theory, by the fact that the accused intends to create an intimidating environment for the authorities responsible for the trial of Jair Messias Bolsonaro”he stated.

“The serious threat materialized through the articulation and obtaining of sanctions from the government of the United States of America, with the application of export tariffs to Brazil, suspension of entry visas for several Brazilian authorities in the United States of America and the application of the effects of the Magnitsky Act to this Minister Rapporteur”declared the minister.

On December 12, the US government removed Moraes and his wife, lawyer Viviane Barci, from the list of those sanctioned by Magnitsky.

Eduardo Bolsonaro must defend himself before the 1st Panel of the STF. At the end of the process, in which witnesses are heard and evidence is produced, the STF ministers will decide whether the former deputy should be convicted and what his eventual penalty will be.
