The Polish Tatra National Park has been completely inaccessible since Tuesday due to extreme snowfall. Tourists are threatened by falling trees and avalanches, and the authorities ask them not to go to the mountains.
Poland’s Tatra National Park (TPN) closed its entire territory to the public until further notice on Tuesday due to dangerous conditions caused by intense snowfall. He warns tourists not to go to the mountains. The Warsaw correspondent TASR informs about it according to the announcement of TPN.
The main reason is trees and branches that break under the weight of freshly fallen snow and directly endanger visitors. The third level of avalanche danger also applies.
Danger to tourists
The park administration urged tourists not to enter the mountain terrain and to monitor the current situation. The safety of visitors depends on their individual decisions, she emphasized.
“Be wise! Don’t go to the mountains!” states the TPN report in the public appeal. It is still recommended to follow further announcements by TPN and mountain rescue service TOPR.
Closed roads after snowfall
Earlier on Tuesday, the park administration decided to close the road to the sought-after Morské oko and warned against entering the TPN because there is an increased danger of avalanches after intense snowfall.
According to the PAP agency, 40 centimeters of snow has already fallen in the city of Zakopane, and the adverse weather has caused traffic restrictions in the border areas with Slovakia. Columns are sometimes formed because of fallen trees, in Tatranská Bukovina drivers had trouble passing sections with a steep incline, and a snow plow fell into a ditch in the Biely Dunajec village.
