A fireball rises from the site of an Israeli airstrike that targeted a building in the Bashoura neighborhood of Beirut in the early hours of March 18, 2026. Lebanon was drawn into war in the Middle East on March 2, when the Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group launched rockets toward Israel in response to joint US-Israeli strikes that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said this Tuesday (31) that his country is willing to end the war with Israel and the United Statesbut wants guarantees that the conflict will not be repeated. “We have the necessary will to put an end to this conflict, as long as the essential conditions are met, especially the guarantees required to avoid a repetition of the aggression,” declared Pezeshkian in a telephone conversation with the President of the European Council, António Costa.

Despite diplomatic efforts, the war in the Middle East shows no sign of easing after more than a month of hostilities, which damaged the world economy and left thousands dead. The next few days will be “decisive”, said Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, assuring that negotiations with Iran “are gaining momentum”.

On Monday, US President Donald Trump threatened Iran with attacks on its energy facilities if negotiations do not reach a good place “quickly” and if Tehran does not “immediately” unblock the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s hydrocarbons passed before the war.

The conflict between Iran, Israel and the United States completed a month on March 28th.
