Trump assures that Iran has requested a ceasefire and makes the opening of the Strait of Hormuz a condition. The president of the United States has assured in a message published on his social network, Truth Social, that the new leader of Iran (whom he has even wanted to praise) has asked his country for a ceasefire and demands, in order to begin considering the supposed proposal, the opening of the
“The new president of the Iranian regime, much less radicalized and much more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a ceasefire!” he noted in a message published in Truth Social, where he wanted to put as a condition the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
“We will consider it when the Strait of Hormuz is open, free and clear. Until then, we are bombing Iran to annihilation or, as they say, back to the Stone Age!” he continued. For now, there is no official response from the Iranian side.
His statements come just a day later to encourage the countries affected by the closure of the strait, of great strategic importance, to “go and take their own oil. “To all those countries that cannot get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion. First, buy from the United States, we have plenty,” he said in a message.
“And second, gather your courage, go to the Strait and TAKE IT! You will have to learn to defend yourself, the United States will no longer be there to help you, just as you were not there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hardest part is over. Go find your own oil!” he added.
It should be remembered that about 20 million barrels of oil per day (bpd) pass through this area, which connects the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea. This translates into 20% to 30% of world maritime crude oil trade and 20% of global consumption.
After the offensive initiated by the United States and Israel, Iran decided to cut them off – both to them and to their allies – as a form of pressure which, due to Trump’s demands, seem to have worked. In total, since the beginning of the conflict, which began on February 28, at least more than a thousand people have lost their lives due to bombings and attacks, according to the media. DW.
