André de Paula takes office at the Ministry of Agriculture

André de Paula left the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture, now headed by former executive secretary, Edipo Araujo.

“I take over the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock today in response to a new call from President Lula. Brazilian agriculture is one of the pillars of our economy. It represents around 25% of our GDP, employs more than 28 million Brazilians, accounts for approximately half of national exports with more than 160 billion dollars in foreign sales. Brazilian agriculture is plural”said André de Paula in his inauguration speech.

André Carlos Alves de Paula Filho is 64 years old and is a lawyer. He held several political positions. He was a councilor in Recife and state deputy in Pernambuco. In 1998, he was elected federal deputy and remained in office for six terms, until 2023.

In 2015, he graduated to head the Pernambuco Cities Secretariat. He was also Secretary of Rural Production and Agrarian Reform of the State. President of the PSD in Pernambuco, he ran for the Senate in 2022, but was not elected.
