Brazilian Championship already has ten coaches fired – 04/06/2026 – Sports

With the dismissal of Dorival Júnior from Corinthians shortly after the defeat against Internacional, 1-0, in the tenth round of the Brazilian Championship, on Sunday (5), the competition reached an average of one coach fired per round.

This Monday (6), Fernando Diniz, free on the market since leaving Vasco, submitted an agreement to be the new coach of the Parque São Jorge team.

Dorival’s work yielded two titles for the Corinthians team, the Copa do Brasil in 2025, against Vasco still under the command of Diniz, and the Supercopa do Brasil, with victory over Flamengo.

Throughout his time at Parque São Jorge, Dorival accumulated a 48.9% success rate, with 66 games, 26 wins, 19 draws and 21 defeats. In the first part of this year’s Brazilian Championship, however, their performance fell, with an average of 33.3%, with two wins, four draws and four defeats.

The tenth coach fired since the start of the competition, Dorival is the fourth Brazilian professional to lose his job during the tournament. The list also has five Argentines and one Colombian.

Jorge Sampaoli was the first to be fired at Nacional, leaving Atlético-MG in the third round, after a draw with Remo. The Argentine has accumulated two draws and one defeat.

Fernando Diniz was the second coach to fall. He left Vasco after a 1-0 defeat to Fluminense in the first game of the Campeonato Carioca semi-final. In total, Diniz led the Cruz-Maltina team in three rounds of the national championship, with two defeats and one draw.

Juan Carlos Osório was the third coach fired in the middle of the Brazilian Championship, with a record of one defeat and three draws for Remo. The coach’s downfall, however, occurred after a 2-1 defeat in the first game of the Campeonato Paraense final against rival Paysandu.

Filipe Luís was the fourth coach to be fired during the event, leaving Flamengo. Former player of the Rio club and last Brazilian champion coach, he was fired even after beating Madureira 8-0 in the second game of the semi-final of the Campeonato Carioca. In this year’s Brazilian Championship, Filipe Luís led Flamengo in three games, with one victory, one draw and one defeat.

Hernán Crespo was the fifth coach to enter the list, even though he was, at the time, in second place at Nacional. The coach led the Tricolor team in four rounds, with three wins and one draw.

Tite led Cruzeiro for six rounds in the Brazilian Championship, accumulating three defeats and three draws. The fall happened after a 3-3 draw with Vasco, at Mineirão.

Juan Pablo Vojvoda was the seventh coach to fall in the championship. Santos fired him after three defeats, two draws and one victory in the championship.

Argentine Martín Anselmi, from Botafogo, and Brazilian Gilmar Dal Pozzo, from Chapecoense, completed the list, now reinforced by Dorival Júnior.
