Minister speaks at constructive meeting. The 53rd meeting may have been one of the last. The matter will not last much longer.
There were more than 4 hours of meeting. And, at the end, a statement lasting just over 1 minute to imply that the agreement on labor law will be close.
This Monday, the 53rd meeting around , the draft Government Law that intends to reform labor laws in Portugal.
When the meeting between the Government, four business confederations and UGT ended, none of the company or union representatives spoke to journalists.
The only spokesperson was the Minister of Labor, who announced that the business confederations and UGT will now consult their bodies on the government’s proposal.
“The meeting it went well, in the spirit of great cordiality that has been maintained throughout these more than eight months of negotiations between all partners”.
“A level of construction of the proposal that is on the table among everyone that demands that now each structure consults its bodies and associates. Let us calmly wait for this consultation to be made. That consultation will naturally be definitive”, commented Maria do Rosário Palma Ramalho.
The minister added that a plenary meeting of the Permanent Commission for Social Coordination will soon be scheduled, where labor law will also be addressed.
Even if UGT rejects the proposal, the government has already warned that the document will nevertheless be presented in the Assembly of the Republic – in this case, not with full understanding, but with a proposal that has contributions from partners.
