Nearly 24 hours after the United States and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire, there are still more questions than answers surrounding the future of the Strait of Hormuz. In his own words, US President Donald Trump gave his consent to the ceasefire on Wednesday night on the condition that there would be a “complete, immediate and safe opening” of the strait. Over 1,000 ships and their crews are currently stuck in the Persian Gulf because they did not dare to pass due to persistent drone and missile attacks in recent weeks. In addition to hundreds of container ships, these also include 420 oil and 19 LNG tankers.
