Landslides are becoming an increasingly serious problem worldwide. Since 1975, the number of people living in vulnerable areas worldwide has doubled. A new study in the specialist journal Science Advances with the participation of the University of Vienna now shows that human interventions on the landscape have more influence on the number of deaths than physical factors. Lower-income countries are recording more deaths due to greater changes in the mountain landscape.
