Peter Magyar will be Hungarian Prime Minister. Viktor Orbán acknowledged defeat in the legislative elections, after what he called a “painful” result, ending 16 years in power.
16 years later, Viktor Orbán leaves power. “I congratulated the victorious party,” he told his supporters in Budapest.
“We will serve the Hungarian nation and our homeland also in opposition”, he added, preparing to interrupt the journey of a powerful figure in the far-right movement allied with North American presidents, Donald Trumpand Russian, Vladimir Putin.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen has already reacted, stating that the “Hungary chose Europe”following the victory of the Tizsa party candidate.
“Tonight, the heart of Europe beats a little faster in Hungary“, he stated, after the defeat of outgoing Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, stressing that, with this vote, the country “resumed its European path”.
“Europe has always chosen Hungary”responded to the leader of the European executive Ursula Von der Leyen, highlighting that, thus, “Europe grows stronger”.
Seguro and Montenegro congratulate Magyar
The President of the Republic congratulated Peter Magyar on his victory in the legislative elections and expressed confidence that Hungary will play a “constructive role and responsible for strengthening European cooperation, supporting the Ukrainian people and promoting peace within Europe”.
António José Seguro’s position was transmitted on the official accounts of the Presidency of the Republic on the social networks Facebook and Instagram. In the note, the head of the Portuguese State “greets the Hungarian people for their high participation in the recent elections, a clear expression of Hungary’s civic commitment and democratic vitality”.
“He also congratulates the winner of the election, Peter Magyar, hoping that his mandate corresponds to a firm commitment to the fundamental values that unite the European peoples: respect for the European project, the promotion of peace and observance of international law”, highlights the President of the Republic.
António José Seguro then highlights that, “at a particularly demanding time for Europe and the world”, he expresses “his confidence that Hungary will play a constructive and responsible role in strengthening European cooperation, supporting the Ukrainian people and promoting peace within Europe”.
Luís Montenegro also congratulated Peter Magyar on his victory in the legislative elections in Hungary and stated that he hopes for joint work in favor of the European project and its fundamental values and principles.
In the message, transmitted to his official account on the social network X, the prime minister refers to bilateral relations and Hungary’s role in the European Union.
“May this new stage, based on broad democratic participation, allow for joint work in favor of the European project and its fundamental values and principles”, emphasizes the Prime Minister.
