Trump will block Strait of Hormuz, operation begins this afternoon

The Prime Minister of Australia stated that the United States did not consult or request Canberra’s participation in the naval blockade announced in the Strait of Hormuz, after negotiations between Washington and Tehran ended without progress.

Speaking to Australian public broadcaster ABC, Anthony Albanese highlighted that to collaborate in the operation promoted by the Administration of the North American President, Donald Trump, and avoided commenting on the effectiveness of the measure, insisting on the need to resume diplomatic dialogue.

“The objective must be to resume peace talks and end the conflict”, said the leader, who warned of the devastating impact that the escalation of tensions is having on the global economy, especially on energy markets.

The Chief Executive highlighted that the Oceanic country has maintained a steadfast position in favor of a negotiated solution and expressed concern about the long-term consequences of the crisisboth in economic terms and for regional stability.

Albanese’s statements come after ceasefire talks between the US and Iran collapsed over the weekend, leading Washington to announce a blockade of all maritime traffic to and from Iranian ports.
