A senior Iranian naval commander, Shahram Irani, called US President Donald Trump’s threat to block the Strait of Hormuz “ridiculous” on Sunday. This comes after peace talks between Tehran and Washington in Pakistan failed to produce an agreement to end the war in the Middle East. TASR informs about it based on the AFP report.
“The brave men of the navy… are monitoring and supervising all the movements of the aggressive US military in the region. The US president’s threats to blockade Iran at sea… are really absurd and ridiculous,” Irani was quoted as saying by state television.
Naval Forces of Iran
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) said security forces were in full control of Hormuz and warned that any wrong move by the enemy would find them in their “death vortex”.
The US Navy will begin blocking “all ships” that try to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz, the White House chief announced on Sunday. Later in the evening, the Central Command of the US Armed Forces (CENTCOM) clarified that ships that do not sail to or from Iran can pass through the key Strait of Hormuz, which softens Trump’s original statement, writes AFP.
The blockade of all Iranian ports and coastal areas will begin at 14:00 GMT (16:00 CEST) on Monday, CENTCOM announced.
