Gilberto Waller Junior’s resignation from the presidency caught the now former president’s allies by surprise. Those closest to him say that his departure is the result of an agreement to approve the name of the Supreme Court.
The relationship occurs because the rapporteur for Messias’ nomination is the senator (PDT-MA), cited in the INSS fraud investigations. He appears as the “political arm” of the scheme. But he denies the accusations.
Weverton is an ally of the current Minister of Social Security, also linked to the PDT, who had a troubled relationship with Waller for some time.
The climax of the “climate” between the two, according to interlocutors, occurred after the then president of the INSS asked for those involved in the fraud to be held accountable. However, the queue for a benefit remained long.
The former president of the INSS also did not have such a good relationship with all the employees. In some decisions,
Waller’s resignation, but he was informed that he was being fired by the executive secretary, Felipe Cavalcante.

To the Panel, Senator Weverton Rocha denied that the dismissal had anything to do with Messias’ appointment. “I never indicated nor asked for the INSS president to leave,” he said.
The Ministry of Social Security says that the change aims to reduce the waiting time for retirees who wait in line for the benefit, which reached an unprecedented 3 million people.
The Panel sought out the former president of the INSS, but he declined to comment.
