Spanish chain Mercadona will open a store in Portimão and is hiring

Mercadona will open its first store in Portimão next October, also marking the chain’s debut in the Faro district.

The new commercial area will have a sales area of ​​1,900 square meters, reinforcing the company’s expansion across the country, where it already has 72 stores.

New store includes multiple sections and dining area

The space will integrate different sections, such as butchers, fishmongers, delicatessen, confectionery and bakery, produce, perfumery, household and pet products, as well as a wine cellar.

The store will also have a “Ready to Eat” area, with self-service service and various meal options for consumption on the spot or to take away, in a dedicated area.

Mercadona is recruiting for the new store, with emphasis on supermarket operator and maintenance assistant roles.

According to the company, the offers include an “effective employment contract from day one”, paid training and salary progression, with annual salaries between R$15,293 and R$20,915.

Conditions include prizes and more vacation days

The company says workers have up to 29 vacation days per year, schedules set in advance and performance bonuses.

From the first full year onwards, the annual bonus corresponds to an extra salary, reaching two additional salaries after four years of service.

Among the recent measures, Mercadona also highlights the granting of “an extra week of vacation” to workers.

Expansion in Portugal continues in 2025

Present in Portugal since 2019, the company currently has around 7,500 workers and plans to open 12 new stores throughout 2025.

Last year, Mercadona recorded a sales volume of more than 2,000 million euros, also maintaining a strong connection with national suppliers.
