The arrival of new commercial areas in the Algarve continues to attract attention, especially when it brings with it promises of employment, reinforcement of the local offer and the entry of brands that have been growing in Portugal, such as Mercadona, which is now preparing a new stage of its expansion in the south of the country.

In this sense, the company announced this Friday that it will open its first supermarket in Portimão in October, which will also be the chain’s debut in the Algarve. The company already has 72 supermarkets in Portugal.

First entry into the district of Faro

According to information released by the company itself, the new unit will have 1,900 square meters of sales area and will have sections such as butchers, fishmongers, cold cuts, confectionery and bakery, produce, perfumery, home products, pet supplies, wine cellar and even the Ready to Eat area on a self-service basis.

The opening of this store is part of Mercadona’s growth plan nationwide, at a time when the brand continues to expand its presence to new areas of the country.

Recruitment has already started

At the same time as confirming the arrival in Portimão, Mercadona says that it is already recruiting for jobs in this store. The company also indicates that the process must be done through its website, presented by the brand itself as the official route for application.

Among the vacancies associated with the new store are, among others, supermarket operator and maintenance assistant roles for the Faro/Portimão area.

How much does the company pay

For the role of supermarket operator, Mercadona announces a workload of 40 hours per week and a gross annual salary of R$15,293, with progression up to R$20,915. For maintenance assistance, the base value disclosed is also R$15,293 gross per year, also with progression up to R$20,915.

The company also adds that these offers include a permanent contract and paid training from day one. During this period, food, transport and accommodation expenses are borne by Mercadona, according to official information released.

Mercadona also highlights the possibility of reaching 29 working days of vacation and mentions an annual bonus system, which after the first full calendar year can be equivalent to one extra salary, then increasing to two extra salaries after four years of service.
